Today the people of Togo are electing their President. To avoid a repeat of the violence that blighted the 2005 poll, large security forces are deployed across the country.
All Mercy Ships crew have been given restricted shore leave - which means no dental or eye clinic, no driving outside the port and no running outside the dock.
Nevertheless, everything seems to have passed very quietly. 
The current president, Faure Gnassingbe, took over after his father in 2005 (his father had then held office for 38 years). Opposition parties are allowed (seven candidates are vying for the job), but they are widely considered not to have any real chance of gaining power. The first results are expected to come in over the weekend. Dag
